SUCCULENT COCONUT
Coconut flesh is highly nutritious and rich in fibre, vitamins C, E, B1, B3, B5 and B6 and minerals including iron, selenium, sodium, calcium, magnesium and phosphorous. It is said to be the 'Plant with a 1000 Uses' by the Polynesian islanders. Coconuts have been grown in tropical regions for more than 4,500 years but recently increased in popularity for their flavour, culinary uses, and potential health benefits.
Coconuts are a rich source of food and are packed with manganese, copper and iron and promote healthy bone health and much of the fat in coconuts is 'good' fat and contains medium-chain triglycerides (MCT's) that are absorbed in a different way to other saturated fats and are used by the body as a direct source of energy, without being stored as fat. In fact there is evidence that it may actually help you lose body fat. Take a look at Bulletproof Coffee and Keto eating plans as they advocate taking coconut MCT oil for weight control.
Coconut oil is said to have little or no effect on cholesterol levels, unlike other saturated fats. They are also low in carbohydrates and high in fibre which makes them ideal for people who need to stabilise their blood sugar. In fact they are a little package of power when it comes to healthy eating. They are so easy to add to your diet and are totally delicious!
ANTI-VIRAL, ANTI-FUNGAL & ANTI-BACTERIAL
Coconuts also contain Caffeic Acid which is said to have anti-inflammatory and anti-viral abilities along with Lauric Acid. This is said to include treatment of bronchitis, gonorrhea, yeast infections, chlamydia, intestinal infections and ringworm. It seems to have the amazing ability to calm and heal most skin complaints as well as help with internal well-being and gut flora.
SKIN FOOD
Coconuts are high in salicylic acid which is actually sold separately as an aid to help the skin by dissolving the type of skin debris that clogs pores and causes acne. Coconut oil is ideal for restoring the natural balance and pH levels of the skin. It has been used by native people for thousands of years and continues to be one of the most powerful and effective moisturising and re-balancing oils today.
It hydrates, moisturises and improves the elasticity of the skin. It can also help heal wounds and cuts and is an essential addition to your First Aid cabinet. It is said to relieve itching from eczema or sunburn and reduce skin inflammation bringing some relief to the sufferer. Pop it on insect bites to form a thin layer on the affected area of the skin which helps protect it from any bacteria and reduce the itching. It is also great for dental health (look up Oil Pulling... yes, it's a thing!) and we have utlised it in our Per Body Care Collection in our PER PRO + Fluoride Free Toothpaste.
CRAZY ABOUT COCONUTS
We are crazy about coconuts! We have a lot of coconutty love at Bare Coco and they feature in our chocolate as Coconut Blossom Nectar and in all our Natural Skincare Collections. It is so versatile, useful, effective and valuable to us that we have included it as a huge part of what we do. We use only the best cold-pressed, organic coconut oil and pure liquid coconut oil in our recipes.
Coconuts have been sustaining people for thousands of years... BC, before Christ in fact. People use it for food, for clothing, for water, for tools, for soap, it does just about everything. The coconut has also saved a lot of lives. During World War II, pilots that were shot down or sailors stranded on Pacific Islands, lived for many months on nothing other than the coconut trees that were on the islands. The coconut is literally a 'Tree of Life'. One of the amazing things about the coconut is their design so they're actually able to float across oceans and then germinate when they land on terra firma. When the ancient Polynesian travelers crossing oceans saw an island with coconut trees, they knew there was hope.
We are delighted to be working with this amazing plant and are very grateful for all it gives us. All hail the coconut!
